Positioning and Uni-Q Driver Array

Initially developed in 1988 and refined over time, Uni-Q technology positions the tweeter at the acoustic centre of the mid-range drive unit, meaning timing is impeccable and distortion is minimised. You’ll hear the perfect soundscape from a wider range of positions in the room as all audio emanates from the same start point.

No matter where in the room you’ve installed the Ci160QRs, you’ll benefit from exceptional audio quality and don’t need to be sat or stood in a ‘sweet spot’ for faithful audio reproduction. The KEF Ci160QRs are a good option if you need to position a speaker in an area that is not the ideal or standard for in-ceiling speaker installation.

Installation

Fitted with dog foot clamping mechanisms, you won’t need any additional mounting equipment to fix the Ci160QR into the ceiling void. Spring-loaded binding posts also make it easy to connect speaker cable without requiring supplementary banana plugs.

The KEF Ci160QRs are supplied with a cutting template making it easy to prepare your ceiling in advance of installing the speakers. A slim mounting depth of 91mm means the Ci160QR are suitable for most ceiling cavities.

How To Power

Ci160QRs require power from an amplifier and are ideally suited to amplifiers with a power range between 10-125 watts. With an impedance rating of 8-ohms, the Ci160QR is capable of reproducing a frequency range of 38Hz - 34KHz, impressive for this price bracket.

We highly recommend the Sonos Amp for use with the Ci160QRs as it meets the recommended amplifier power requirements and will offer dynamic sound with great features such as wireless streaming and voice assistant integration with a compatible device. The Amp can also be integrated into a home Sonos ecosystem.

Discreet Design

The Ci160QRs have been designed with an Ultra Thin Bezel design, meaning the visible rim around the speaker is as slim and unobtrusive as possible. For an even more discreet look, the KEF logo featured on the grille can be removed and the speaker grilles can be spray painted to blend in seamlessly with the rest of your ceiling.

The grilles are powder-coated to offer moisture resistance along with UV protection. This wouldn’t make the Ci160QRs suitable for use outdoors, but they could be used in a bathroom away from a water source or in a bright room without degrading over time.
