Sonos Roam vs. Sonos Roam SL
The main difference between the Sonos Roam and the Sonos Roam SL is the SL’s lack of inbuilt microphone. This is what gives the Roam SL its SL moniker, standing for ‘speechless’. Here are the main differences you should know about:
- The Roam SL doesn’t support Amazon Alexa or Google Assistant voice control
- The Roam SL cannot perform Auto-Trueplay, a feature that automatically calibrates your audio to the space, whereas the Roam can
- You cannot use the Soundswap feature with the Sonos Roam SL
- The Sonos Roam SL is £20 cheaper at £159 than the Sonos Roam at £179

Simple Setup & Control
Setup is simple just connect to your WiFi, turn the Roam on & open the Sonos app. The app will automatically detect the speaker and guide you through the setup process.
Control anyway you like. Go hands-free and use your voice with either Amazon Alexa or Google Assistant (when connected over WiFi), send audio from your Apple device using Airplay 2 and use Siri for more control or use the buttons on Roam to play, pause, skip, adjust the volume, turn off power to the mic or manually switch to Bluetooth.

Q. Will Roam work with Bluetooth out of the box?
A. Unfortunately, like the Sonos Move, you must first set the Sonos Roam up via WiFi before you can switch to Bluetooth.
Q. Can I add two Sonos Roams as rear surrounds to my Sonos TV speaker
A. Unfortunately the Sonos Roam can not be used as the rear surround speakers.
Q. Can I stereo pair two Roams?
A. Yes, when on WiFi you can create a stereo pair of 2 x Sonos Roam in the Sonos app for a wider soundstage and detailed stereo separation. You cannot use a pair of Sonos Roam speakers as surround speakers in your Sonos home cinema setup.
Q. What's the difference between Bluetooth and WiFi?
A. Bluetooth pairing works using short-range radio waves to connect to your smart devices. Wi-Fi connects to both your device & the internet (typically via a wireless router). This internet access enables you to group or stereo pair your speakers, stream higher fidelity audio over longer distances, use voice assistants, play content from Sonos Radio & more.
Q. Is the Sonos Roam Waterproof?
A. Yes, the Roam has an IP67 rating meaning it can be submerged in 1 m of water for up to 30 minutes.
Q. Is the charger supplied with the Roam?
A. No, the Sonos Roam is supplied with a USB-C to USB-A cable. You will need a a 7.5W (5V/1.5A) or higher USB power adapter. You can also use any Qi certified charger or purchase the Sonos Roam Wireless Charger, custom-designed for the Roam.
Q. Is the Roam compatible with the S1 app?
A. No, as the Roam is from the new generation of Sonos products, it is only compatible with the S2 app.
