Our Favourite TVs for Film Lovers in 2025:
If film night is the main event in your living room, your sofa should feel like the best seat in the house. Whether you’re into intense dramas or full-blown blockbusters, finding the best TV for movies can turn a standard film night into something you’ll actually look forward to.
The good news? TVs in 2025 are seriously impressive. OLEDs are brighter than ever and newer tech like QD-OLED and Primary RGB Tandem OLED are making a real difference to how films look at home. But let’s be honest, not every TV that claims to be ‘cinema-worthy’ really is.
That’s where we come in. We’ve picked out six of the best TVs for movies this year. No waffle, no complicated tech jargon, just honest recommendations based on picture quality, sound, features, and what it’s actually like to live with them.

Pick One: Samsung S95F

Recommended For: Viewers looking for the perfect balance of performance, price and versatility.
The Samsung S95F is the latest version of Samsung’s flagship OLED TV, and it makes a very strong case for itself as one of the most complete TVs for movie watching in 2025. Samsung has built on the strengths of the S95D that came before it, improving brightness, refining colour handling and tackling one of OLED’s biggest pain points: reflections.
The key upgrade here is the new 4th generation QD-OLED panel, which delivers a meaningful 30% step up in brightness over its predecessor. This makes it one of the brightest OLEDs currently available, helping HDR content really stand out and giving it a clear edge for watching films during the day or in brighter rooms.
Helping with that is the updated Glare Free 2.0 screen, which significantly reduces reflections without the matte finish muddying dark scenes too much. This was a sticking point on the previous model, so it’s good to see Samsung strike a better balance here.
In terms of sound, the built-in 4.2.2-channel speaker system delivers solid results. Object Tracking Sound+ does a good job of keeping effects and dialogue aligned with on-screen action, and the overall sound profile is clear and punchy. No, it won’t replace a proper soundbar or surround system, but for built-in audio, it’s well above average.
The design is sleek and premium, with a slim profile and Samsung’s One Connect Box keeping cable clutter to a minimum. It also offers a versatile feature set, with four HDMI 2.1 ports, 4K at up to 165Hz, VRR and an ultra-low input lag of 9.5ms. While that’s ideal for gaming, it also means smooth, judder-free playback on 4K Blu-rays or high-frame-rate streaming content, which film fans will appreciate just as much.
One thing to be aware of is the panel type. The 55, 65 and 77-inch models use Samsung’s latest QD-OLED panel, but the 83-inch version switches to a WOLED panel from LG Display. Performance is still excellent, but if you’re chasing maximum brightness and colour impact, it’s worth considering the difference.
Overall, the S95F delivers a brilliant balance of performance, value and versatility. It’s a great all-rounder and if you want your movie nights to look spectacular without needing a completely dark room, this is one of the best places to start.

Pick Two: LG G5

Recommended For: Home cinema fans who want the brightest, most advanced OLED experience available right now.
The LG G5 is one of the standout models in LG's 2025 TV lineup and an easy recommendation for movie lovers who prioritise picture quality above all else. It’s the first model in the range to use the brand-new Primary RGB Tandem OLED panel which is a major step forward in OLED display tech that delivers more brightness and a leap in performance across the board.
From our experiences, the G5 has been very impressive across a variety of film genres. Whether you're streaming films or watching 4K Blu-rays, it handles contrast and detail with real care, producing an image that’s rich, layered and full of depth. It’s a noticeable step forward from previous LG OLEDs, especially in scenes that demand a bit more finesse.
Design-wise, it’s every bit the premium flagship. The Gallery Series build means it’s designed to sit flush against the wall for a minimalist, art-frame look, though a stand version is also available in certain sizes which looks equally impressive.
The only real caveat here is sound. While the G5’s 60W built-in system supports Dolby Atmos and performs reasonably well in day-to-day use, it doesn’t quite deliver the scale and impact that the picture deserves. We'd say if you want to truly make the G5 home cinema ready, a soundbar or surround sound system will be a great addition.
No, the G5 isn't cheap but, if you’re after a serious home cinema screen that's available in a wide range of sizes, it’s absolutely one of the best TVs on the market right now.

Pick Three: Sony Bravia 8 II

Recommended For: Viewers who value cinematic accuracy and want stunning performance straight our of the box.
The Sony Bravia 8 II replaces the award-winning A95L in Sony’s 2025 range and it carries forward much of what made that model such a hit with home cinema fans. The tuning is unmistakably Sony and cinematic straight out of the box.
That’s a big part of the appeal. You don’t need to dive into endless picture settings or experiment to get a great experience. It’s all calibrated to bring out the best in film content without any hassle. Skin tones look lifelike, shadow detail is impressive, and colours are rich and we've been very impressed through our testing.
Brightness is strong overall, though not quite at the same level as the LG G5 or Samsung S95F. That said, the Bravia 8 II makes up for it with better tonal control, and more refined contrast in our opinion.
Audio is another strong point. Sony’s Acoustic Surface Audio+ turns the screen itself into a speaker, anchoring dialogue to what's on screen and adding a real sense of depth to film soundtracks. It’s not a full replacement for a soundbar or surround system, but it’s a more immersive built-in option than most TVs in this class.
There are a couple of limitations worth being aware of. The Bravia 8 II is only available in 55 and 65-inch sizes, so if you're looking for something larger or smaller, you'll need to look elsewhere. It also only has two HDMI 2.1 ports, not four like some competitors which could be something to think about if you're plugging in multiple sources.
That said, if your priority is cinematic accuracy and you don’t need to chase maximum brightness, this is one of our favourite options out there.

Pick Four: LG C5

Recommended For: Anyone wanting a premium OLED experience without the flagship price tag.
The LG C5 sits right in the sweet spot of LG’s 2025 OLED range. It doesn’t carry the same high-end Primary RGB Tandem OLED panel tech as the G5 above it, but for most people, it absolutely delivers the cinematic quality you’d hope for from a top-tier OLED (just at a much more accessible price).
This is the model we’d point to if you want something that still feels premium, but you’re not ready to make the jump to flagship territory. It gives you all the essentials like deep blacks, excellent contrast, natural colour, and smooth motion without any fuss.
It's great for a wide range of film genres and while it might not reach the same peak brightness as the G5 or Samsung’s S95F, the difference is unlikely to matter for the majority of people in a typical living room.
Design-wise, the C5 looks sleek and modern, it’s slim enough to wall mount neatly or sit comfortably on a media unit, and comes with the full webOS 25 smart platform and four HDMI 2.1 ports as standard.
Built-in sound is decent, with Dolby Atmos support and AI Sound Pro doing a good job at elevating dialogue and background effects. But like most TVs at this level, it really comes alive when you pair it with a good soundbar or speaker setup.
All in all, the LG C5 is the kind of OLED TV that will suit a lot of homes. It looks great, sounds decent, handles film content with care, and costs noticeably less than its flagship sibling. If you’re after that high-end movie feel without stretching your budget too far, this is a fantastic place to land.

Pick Five: Samsung Q7F

Recommended For: Film lovers on a budget who want something bright, reliable and a little different to OLED.
The Samsung Q7F sits in a different league to the other models in this list, but it’s still a strong option if you’re after a large screen TV for film watching, at a much more affordable price. As part of Samsung’s QLED range, it uses a direct lit VA panel to deliver bright, colourful visuals that will hold up well in most rooms.
It doesn’t offer the same deep blacks or cinematic picture quality as the more premium TVs above, but for casual film watching, it does a respectable job especially with HDR10+ content and Samsung’s Filmmaker Mode enabled.
You also get four HDMI 2.1 ports, decent smart features via Tizen, and strong gaming performance. Just be aware that black levels and shadow details won’t compete with the more expensive models on this list.
All in all, the Q7F is a sensible option if you’re shopping on a tighter budget or simply prefer the extra brightness of QLED over the precision of OLED. Sure, this might not be a home cinema showstopper, but it'll get the job done for A LOT less.

Pick Six: Sony Bravia 9

Recommended For: Bright rooms and anyone looking for a premium alternative to OLED.
Despite being released in 2024, the Sony Bravia 9 remains the flagship model in Sony’s 2025 range, and after plenty of hands-on testing, we think it absolutely earns its place on this shortlist. It’s a seriously bright TV that’s made for movie watching, and with prices now considerably lower than they were at launch, it’s become even more appealing.
It takes everything that worked well on the Bravia X95L and pushes it further, with Sony’s Backlight Master Drive, more advanced dimming zones, and some of the most impressive image processing we’ve seen on a Mini LED TV. You get deep blacks, impressive contrast and beautifully balanced colours, all without needing to spend hours in the settings menu.
Like the Bravia 8 II, the cinematic tuning on offer here means films look natural and engaging right out of the box. It handles tricky low-light scenes with bright highlights really well too, keeping blooming under control far better than most LED rivals.
If you’re someone who wants the very latest tech, you might lean towards some of the newer OLED models in this list. But if you’re looking for something that performs brilliantly in brighter rooms or just prefer the look and feel of Mini LED, the Bravia 9 is still a fantastic pick, even in 2025.
