LG's 2025 QNED TVs

For those who aren’t familiar, QNED is LG’s name for their more advanced LED TVs, offering a step up from their basic UHD and NanoCell models.

In the 2025 lineup, LG’s QNEDs have undergone a pretty big change. In previous years, QNED TVs used a combination of Quantum Dot and NanoCell technologies to enhance colour. This year, LG has replaced the use of Quantum Dot technology with a new system called Dynamic QNED Colour. This tech still delivers bright, vibrant colours, but uses a more efficient method behind the scenes.

As you move up the QNED range, standard LED backlighting is replaced by Mini LED, which gives far more precise control over brightness and contrast with thousands of smaller LEDs.

In general, LG’s QNEDs are a solid step up from standard LED TVs, but picture quality does vary depending on the model you choose.

LG QNED80

Panel Type: Edge-lit LED

Available Sizes: 43-, 50-, 55-, 65-, 75-, 86-inches

The QNED80 is the entry point to LG’s QNED lineup for 2025. It’s an edge-lit LED TV with local dimming, meaning the backlighting comes from rows of LEDs positioned around the edge of the screen rather than directly behind it.

This model is limited to a 60Hz refresh rate, which is perfectly fine for casual viewing and everyday content but won’t be the best choice for fast-paced gaming or high-frame-rate content.

Overall, the QNED80 is a solid step up from LG’s standard LCD and NanoCell TVs, making it a good entry-level option for buyers looking to improve on the basics without stretching the budget.

LG QNED82 & LG QNED84

The QNED82 and QNED84 are essentially identical to the QNED80 in terms of spec and performance. All three models share the same edge-lit LED panel, local dimming, Alpha 7 AI Processor Gen 8, and 60Hz refresh rate. Picture quality, processing, and overall capabilities are the same across the board.

The only differences are in design. The QNED82 features a Dark Titan Silver stand and a more modern Ashed Blue frame, while the QNED84 opts for a Charcoal Black stand and frame for a slightly more understated look (See below).

On larger screen sizes, the QNED84 also comes with different feet, designed to better accommodate a soundbar by providing more clearance beneath the display. If you’re choosing between them, it really just comes down to which design fits your setup best.

LG QNED85

Panel Type: Mini LED

Available Sizes: 55-, 65-, 75-, 86-inches (100-inch US)

The QNED85 is where LG’s QNED lineup starts to take a noticeable step up in performance. It’s the first model in the range to feature Mini LED backlighting, introducing thousands of smaller LEDs and significantly more local dimming zones for better contrast, deeper blacks, and reduced blooming compared to the edge-lit models below it.

It’s also where we first see the QNED evo branding. While “evo” originally appeared on LG’s OLEDs, in 2025 it also applies to higher-end QNEDs. This marks out models with enhanced specs, smarter processing, and upgraded panel technology.

The QNED85 uses Advanced Local Dimming Pro to manage all those LEDs more precisely, resulting in a more dynamic image with higher peak brightness. It’s still an edge-lit Mini LED design, so it won’t match OLED or full-array systems for black level precision, but it is a major improvement over standard LED.

You also get a faster 120Hz panel, which means smoother motion during sports, films, and fast-paced content. For gamers, some sizes support up to 144Hz VRR, along with features like AMD FreeSync, ALLM, and Dolby Vision for gaming.

It’s powered by LG’s new Alpha 8 AI Processor Gen 2, which brings AI Picture Pro, AI Sound Pro, and improved upscaling and motion handling compared to the Alpha 7 used in lower-tier models.

If you’re looking for a big screen experience, this is the first QNED model in the range to go up to 100 inches, making it one of the most affordable ways to get a truly cinematic screen size. However, it's worth noting that this model isn't available in the UK.

The QNED86 is extremely similar to the QNED85 in terms of core features and picture performance. Both models use Mini LED backlighting, run on the Alpha 8 AI Processor Gen 2, and offer 120Hz refresh rates with strong gaming support.

The main difference between the two comes down to design and stand type. While the QNED85 features feet positioned at either end of the screen, the QNED86 swaps these for a central pedestal stand.

This design shift won’t affect performance, but it could impact your setup, especially if you're planning to use a soundbar or have limited space on your TV unit.

In terms of panel and spec, the two are effectively interchangeable. So your decision here really comes down to screen size availability and the physical footprint that works best for your space.

The big upgrade here is the move to Full Array Mini LED backlighting with Precision Dimming Pro. That means thousands of tiny LEDs are spread evenly across the entire panel, not just around the edges. This gives you the full power of Mini LED tech, including deeper blacks, more consistent brightness in dark scenes and HDR content, and significantly reduced blooming around bright objects.

The C5 is the latest in LG’s multi-year award-winning C Series, known for being a brilliant all-rounder. It sits in the middle of LG’s OLED lineup, offering a great balance between performance and price, and is available in a wide range of screen sizes from 42 inches all the way up to 83 inches.

This model still uses a standard WOLED panel, so you won’t find MLA tech or a heatsink here. However, it upgrades to the Alpha 9 AI Processor Gen 8, which unlocks a number of improvements including AI Super Upscaling, AI Picture Pro, AI Sound Pro, Dynamic Sound Booster, and OLED Dynamic Tone Mapping Pro, which analyses every frame to enhance resolution, brightness, depth, and clarity.

It also introduces LG’s Brightness Booster, which offers a noticeable increase in brightness over the B5.

The C5 is also a fantastic choice for gamers, with four HDMI 2.1 ports, support for 4K at 120Hz, VRR, ALLM, and 144Hz on PC. All key HDR formats are supported including Dolby Vision, HLG, and HDR10. (Worth noting that LG TVs do not support HDR10+.)

One thing to keep in mind is that there are multiple variants of the C5, with different letters and numbers at the end of the model name. Don’t worry, the core specs and features are the same across all C5 models. The differences are minor and mostly relate to regional or design variations.

It uses deep learning to refine lower-quality content and improves clarity, detail, and motion handling. It also supports Dynamic Tone Mapping Pro, which adjusts HDR performance scene by scene. LG has added a new light boosting algorithm and light control architecture, which work alongside Brightness Booster Ultimate to deliver up to three times the brightness of the B5.

The biggest headline change, though, is the switch to LG’s brand new Primary RGB Tandem OLED panel, also called 4-stack OLED. The G5 continues LG’s gallery design, making it a sleek and stylish option for wall mounting. In the 55-inch and 65-inch sizes, you now have the choice between a wall mount or stand. When wall-mounted, the TV sits extremely close to the wall for a clean, built-in look.

Gamers also get an upgrade. The G5 supports everything found on the C5 but adds refresh rates up to 165Hz, making it one of the best TVs available for both console and PC gaming.

If you’re choosing between the C5 and the G5, both are excellent. But the G5 takes things further in almost every area, especially if you want that extra level of performance, brightness, and visual wow factor.
